PRIMARY FUNCTION:
Provides support to Project Superintendent and Project Manager. Primary responsibilities include assisting with planning, procurement, quality control and documentation processes for DBM projects. Duties are typically performed at DBM jobsites. DBM performs projects throughout the western U.S., therefore some travel is required. Project Engineer reports directly to the Project Manager, but also works closely with the Project Superintendent in performance of daily duties.
TYPICAL DUTIES:
- Must be knowledgeable of project specifications and product quality requirements.
- Under direction of the Project Manager, assists in planning, scheduling and procurement processes.
- Provides technical support for construction effort including participation in construction planning and design; interpretation of design; application of construction methods; resolution and documentation of design conflicts; constructability reviews, etc.
- Working with Project Superintendent, assists in managing jobsite inventory, delivery schedules, storage and handling of permanent and consumable materials to meet the project schedule.
- Monitors, oversees and documents product testing and quality control processes. Ensures testing and QC efforts comply with company and contract requirements and support overall construction schedule.
- Represents Company, project and/or department during A/E, client and project management meetings.
- Works with project team as required to resolve problems, ensure quality of design (if applicable) and construction, etc. in support of overall project schedule.
- Performs additional assignments per supervisor’s direction.
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, QUALIFICATIONS, & EXPERIENCE:
Educational and experience requirements include: 4 year engineering or construction management degree, or equivalent technical training and related experience. Basic knowledge of construction engineering terms, technology, codes, and standards is beneficial. Candidates who wish to pursue registration as a Professional Engineer will find this position places them firmly on that track.
Should possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills and be willing to work effectively in a team environment. Candidates who desire to see engineering theory put to practical use in real-world geotechnical construction applications will be well suited for this position.
COMMENTS:
The Project Engineer fills a key technical role on DBM projects. An individual Project Engineer may be responsible for filling this role concurrently on multiple projects.

PRIMARY FUNCTION:
Provides overall management direction for a field project or two or more smaller projects. Project Manager reports to Construction Manager.
TYPICAL DUTIES:
- Assists Construction Manager with planning, organizing and staffing key field positions through General Superintendent and Executive V.P. of Operations.
- Establishes individual project objectives, policies, procedures and performance standards within boundaries of corporate policy.
- Initiates and maintains liaison with prime client and A/E contacts, to facilitate project construction activities.
- Monitors/controls construction through administrative direction of Project Superintendent to ensure project is built on schedule and within budget; investigates potentially serious situations and implements corrective measures.
- Represents company in project meetings, assists in labor negotiations/strategy meetings, etc.
- Manages financial aspects of project contracts (fee payment, rental equipment, income/expenses, etc.) to protect company’s interest and simultaneously maintain good relationship with Client.
- Assists with development, implementation, and interpretation of project safety and quality control plans.
- Provides direction to project planning, scheduling, QA/QC, and engineering functions as required.
- Prepares complete estimates for assigned project(s).
- Assumes additional responsibilities as directed by corporate executives.
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, QUALIFICATIONS, & EXPERIENCE:
Educational and experience requirements include: 4 year engineering or construction management degree, or equivalent, plus extensive (five or more years) experience/knowledge of specialty geotechnical construction, design, finance, and management required. Must be able to apply innovative and effective management techniques to maximize employee performance.
Thorough understanding of corporate and industry practices, processes, standards, etc. and their impact on project activities is vital; superior communication and interpersonal (tact, diplomacy, influence, etc.) skills essential. Must be a business oriented person.
COMMENTS:
Makes decisions and recommendations which can greatly impact corporate relationship with Client and project profitability. Management responsibility generally limited to one major project or more than one smaller less critical projects.
